Eyebrow Mania

Let’s face the facts: our eyebrows shape our entire face and perfectly shaped brows can help create that flawless finish. Unfortunately, everyone can not have eyebrows as gorgeous as supermodel Cara Delevingne but with a few new products and a little knowledge on brow shape, you can be well on your way.

Thick, thin, straight, arched; so many brow shapes surround us. Cynthia Chua, owner of Browhaus salon in New York City, has this to say about which shape fits which face. For those with a square face, she recommends thick eyebrows. In order to achieve the look, eyebrows should be threaded or waxed to ensure a neat, natural appearance. For women with a round face, she recommends an arched eyebrow to “create a more oval look.” Tweezing is the way to go when trying to create a high arch and will sculpt your brows while creating a precise finish. For long faces, Chua suggests flat straight eyebrows with a low arch to open up the face sideways. Heart shaped faces require a round arch to soften out pointy chins and last but not least, oval shaped faces can pull off a variety of shapes according to Chua. Chua recommends grooming brows once every three weeks for a well maintained look.

With the wide array of brow products on the market, it may be difficult to determine which is best for you. In general, brow pencils are best for changing the shape of the brow or filling in a patch. “Brow pencils are more corrective,” says brow specialist, Joey Healy. Clinique’s Superfine Liner for Brows ($15) is best for drawing on the smallest hairs and YBF Automatic Eyebrow Pencil ($12) creates a blended and natural look due to the included spoolie. Brow gels are great for setting your brow shape. Healy believes that “gel… keeps you looking young and fresh.” M.A.C Brow Set ($16) stays in place without stiffening. Brow powders are “best for people who just want to add a bit of plushness to their brows,” says Healy. Anastasia Brow Powder Duo ($23) has seven duos with two blendable shades perfect for anyone. The best reviewed brow kit is Benefit Brow Zings Brow Shaping Kit ($30) which is a powder and wax duo that also includes tweezers and two brushes.

Hopefully this little guide has offered some insight on how to get your eyebrows “on fleek". As always, remember to stay profashional!
